Eight Indian classical dance styles have been conferred classical status by Sangeet Natak Akademi. These are Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Odissi (Odissa), Manipuri (Manipur), Mohiniyattam (Kerala), Kathak (North, West and Central India), Kathakali (Kerala), Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh), and Sattriya (Assam).
